"It was once told to me, what started out as a small group of goofy, creepy death rockers going to Disneyland, has grown into its own institution and is just crazy and amazing. At the first official Bats Day, there was only about 80 people. At the second Bats Day, there was just over 200 people. The best thing is that everyone who goes to Bats Day can just leave all their cares and worries at the gate, and just have a fun time. May Bats Day in the Fun Park be around every year."

Bats Day in the Fun Park, which started in August 1999 between the promoters of the goth/industrial & deathrock clubs, Absynthe and Release the Bats, has turned into a 3-day weekend event near Disneyland, Ca.

It is true that Bats Day in the Fun Park was in August. People have always asked why Bats Day was in August. When Bats Day first started, it was just a park meet. The weekend Bats Day would happen was the first weekend of Disneyland’s summer schedule that the lowest annual pass was not blocked.  This was the last weekend that Disneyland would close at 12am.  When Disneyland was not on its summer schedule the park would close between 8pm and 9pm.

Then in 2008 Bats Day had its 10th anniversary event, the “Year of a Million Screams.” We decided to change things up and do something special. We moved the event to the month of November.  This way the attendees who have come to the event get to see the Haunted Mansion as Haunted Mansion Holliday.  Also Disneyland stays open much later on Sunday then when it used to back in 1999.

Now in 2009, Bats Day is moving it annual month to May.  We have decided that the month of August has just become too hot.  We felt was a much cool month for the event.
